What is meant by slow heart
Human heart beats at a specific rate, this rate alters within the normal range according to situations, but if this range is crossed or heart normal behavior changes for example, if heart keeps on beating faster even within normal range for longer periods, it is called as cardiac arrhythmia.
Cardiac arrhythmia is basically of two types:
i)- Bradycardia: It means slow heart that is heart beats slower than normal pace, it may feel like sinking of heart, hypotension(low blood pressure), or in severe cases syncope(getting unconscious).
ii)- Tachycardia: It means faster heart rate than normal range, it may feel like palpitations, jumping of heart, dizziness, lightheadedeness etc.
Bradycardia or slow heart is a common condition, that may be faced by patients having:
- Heart tissue damage
- SA or AV node dysfunction
- Myocarditis
- Hypothyroidism
- Aging
If a patient have symptoms of bradycardia, he/she should:
- Avoid physical fatigue that makes breathless
- keep on noticing the trends
- blue nails or lips
- sinking of heart
- drop in blood pressure
- vertigo feeling (especially while standing from sitting posture)
If a patient feels symptoms of bradycardia, he/she should consult with cardiologist and should take a proper treatment plan including medication, lifestyle management tips, nutritional guidance and follow the plan.
